About the Book

Impressions of Singapore is a publication project spearheaded by Dr Yeo Guat Kwang (former Member of Parliament) and is the result of contributions from students of the Nanyang Centre for Public Administration. Compiled and edited by an editorial team under the leadership of Mr Ang Lai Sheng, the book explores familiar topics and issues for Singaporeans (and anyone who wants to get to know Singapore), offering a perspective on the nation through the lens of public administration. It covers a wide range of subjects, including housing, water supply, transport, tourism, foreign affairs, food supply, education, arts, culture, and more.

About the Author/Editor

Ang Lai Sheng is a prominent Singaporean writer, poet, translator, publisher, and columnist, currently serving as the CEO and Editor-in-Chief of TrendLit Publishing Private Limited (Singapore). His literary works, essays, and reviews have been featured in esteemed journals and newspapers across Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China. In recognition of his significant contributions to Singapore literature and the publishing industry, he was honoured with the NTU SoH Alumni Award from Nanyang Technological University in 2023. His published works include two poetry collections, After Commotion, The Void (2014) and Destroy All Gods (2016), as well as edited anthologies like In the Space of a Poem (2016, 2017) and Never Before (2018), among others.

  《观感狮城》由杨木光博士发起,结集了新加坡南洋理工大学,南洋公共管理学院(Nanyang Centre for Public Administration)“中国市长班”的20堂实境课,随后由汪来昇主编成书。本书从新加坡国人熟悉的生活大小事着手,以深入浅出、言简意赅的方式,让读者佩戴上“公共管理学视角”的眼镜,探索着新加坡不同的课题,其中包括组屋、水源、教育、交通、旅游、外交、食物供应链,以及文化、艺术等。

  “狮城”国小民寡,亦国亦城,生存不易——这已然不是课本告诉我们的,而是现实给予生活的真切反馈。我国自1819年起,历经殖民、二战、自治、联邦,到1965年独立,在(现代化的)历史恒河中仅是短短的200年,却在最后的50余年内晋升为发达国家,长期吸引着游客、资本与技术前来。这一切并不是偶然。

编者简介

  汪来昇,1987年生,毕业于新加坡南洋理工大学中文系。现为新文潮出版社创办人与总编辑,及旗下书店,海风书屋负责人之一。文学作品与评论,散见于中港台与新马报章、选集与文学期刊;新加坡《联合早报》专栏作家。著有诗集《喧嚣过后》、《消灭众神》;编有文集《我狮城,我街道》、诗选集《一首诗的时间》、《不可预期》,以及文学杂志《不为什么》等。
