Is Nanyang University (or the current Nanyang Technological University today), as a physical and cultural space, a story of rupture or of continuity? Every generation of the university community has countless stories to tell.
Richly illustrated, this volume brings together more than thirty works of creative non-fiction by Nanyang's faculty members, postgraduate students, undergraduates, and alumni across generations. The collection spans a wide range of genres, including personal essays, scholarly articles, speeches, and reflective academic essays.
Centered on the people, places, and events surrounding Nanyang, these contributions revisit the journey from Nanyang University to Nanyang Technological University from diverse perspectives. Together, they trace the institution's evolution, discontinuities, and transformations, while capturing how different generations of the Nanyang community remember, commemorate, and reconstruct the landscapes and legacy of the old Nanyang University. At the same time, they offer fresh interpretations, observations, and aspirations for the new Nanyang community.
About the Editor
Hee Wai Siam, is an Associate Professor in the Division of Chinese, School of Humanities, at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He directs the Asian Creative Writing Programme and the Minor in Chinese Creative Writing. His teaching and research cover modern Chinese-language literature and culture, the Cold War in the Sinophone world, gender studies, and Sinophone cinema. He is the recipient of the Nanyang Outstanding Teaching Award and a Fulbright Research Award.
His publications include the Chinese and English editions of Remapping the Sinophone: The Cultural Production of Singaporean and Malaysian Chinese-Language Cinema Before and After the Cold War (Hong Kong: Hong Kong University Press); Sinophone Cinema in Post-Malaysia: Nanyang Style, Sino-Malay Aesthetics, and Auteurism (Taiwan: Linking Publishing); and From Erotic History to Sexual History: Queer Writing and the Construction of Masculinity in Modern China (Taiwan: National Central University Press).
He also co-edited the Chinese and English editions of Memoirs: A Reader of Singapore Chinese Fiction with Quah Sy Ren, and Transnational Chinese Cinemas: Corporeality, Desire, and the Ethics of Failure with Brian Bergen-Aurand and Mary Mazzilli.

许维贤，新加坡南洋理工大学人文学院中文系副教授，负责亚洲创意写作项目及华文创意写作副修课程，执教华语文学与文化冷战、性别研究与华语电影等课程，并获得南洋杰出教学奖和傅尔布莱特研究奖。另外著有学术专书《重绘华语语系版图：冷战前后新马华语电影的文化生产》中英版（香港大学出版社）、《华语电影在后马来西亚：土腔风格、华夷风与作者论》（台湾联经出版社）和《从艳史到性史：同志书写与近现代中国的男性建构》（台湾国立中央大学出版中心），并与柯思仁主编《备忘录：新加坡华文小说读本》中英版，以及与Brian Bergen-Aurand, Mary Mazzilli主编《跨国华语电影：身体、欲望和伦理的挫败》（英文版）。
