About Tower of Epoch

Cracks (Xia Xi) is Aw Seow Pooi's debut poetry collection, featuring works from the past 2019-2022. As the title suggests, “cracks” symbolize the fractures and remnants scattered along one's daily path. The poet reflects on how, despite the similarities in everyone's routines, what remains—the “leftovers”—continually diminishes. Moving in opposite directions, we find no completeness or lasting attachments, which is why the collection is divided into “Entry” and “Exit” segments. Aw also believes that the past and present will inevitably collapse, while the future remains an “uncrossed bridge”. Each poem, therefore, becomes a metaphor for life and death.

About the Writer

Aw Seow Pooi, born in Malaysia and now based in Singapore, has earned numerous literary accolades, including the Hong Kong Youth Literary Award, Singapore Golden Point Award, National Poetry Competition Award, and the Singapore Youth Chinese Poetry Award. Her works have been widely published across platforms in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan. She fondly recalls one of her most cherished memories—stroking a Malayan tapir's bottom in the morning mist.
